Coronavirus Update

Friday, December 11

Yesterday, the Cayman Islands Government announced its plan for allowing international stayover visitors.  While the announcement did not provide an exact reopening date, it is being reported that international tourism will be able to resume in March 2021.

The Cayman Islands have taken a far more conservative approach to reopening for international tourism versus other Caribbean nations.  Likewise, the Government’s announced reopening plan is also based upon a very conservative strategy.  While the announcement did not include detailed reopening protocols, the plan’s foundation is based upon first vaccinating Cayman healthcare workers and the Island’s elderly and medically vulnerable population and requires visitors to provide proof that they have undergone a full COVID-19 vaccination regimen.  Additionally, visitors will be required to receive a negative result from a PCR test upon arrival.

This path to reopening the Cayman Islands borders to tourism is contingent upon the approval and distribution of a vaccine in the United States, Canada and other countries where you, our loyal guests, call home.  At this time, only the United Kingdom has begun distributing a vaccine, but it is hoped that Canada and the U.S. will begin distribution shortly.  We understand that the requirements of this plan make the timing of our ability to welcome you back contingent upon factors that are beyond anyone’s control.

We plan to reopen our resorts at the very first opportunity when it is allowed by the Cayman Government and practical for our guests to return.  We hope that the March 2021 timeline is realistic but will continue to keep you informed as we receive additional details.

Guests with Vacation Dates through Until March 2021

Our reservations office located in Saint Petersburg, Florida, will be contacting all guests and group travel partners with reservations impacted under the proposed reopening timeline.  We will continue to offer all guests the opportunity to rebook their vacation at the same guaranteed rate for any available date through 2022 without change fees.

Guests with Vacation Dates in March 2021 and Later

For those guests with reservations in March 2021 and later, please know that we are in regular communication with Cayman Government officials to gain additional details on the announced plan and to suggest equally safe reopening protocols that would make vacation travel easier.  We will provide ongoing updates as additional details are made available in the weeks ahead.
